HARMANDIR SAHIB
Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as Sri Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple, (on account of its scenic beauty and golden coating for English speaking world), is named after Hari(God) the temple of God. The Sikhs all over the world, daily wish to pay visit to Sri Amritsar and to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib in their Ardas.
Guru Arjan Sahib, the Fifth Nanak, conceived the idea of creating a central place of worship for the Sikhs and he himself designed the architecture of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Earlier the planning to excavate the holy tank (Amritsar or Amrit Sarovar ) was chalked out by Guru Amardas Sahib, the Third Nanak, but it was executed by Guru Ramdas Sahib under the supervision of Baba Budha ji. The land for the site was acquired by the earlier Guru Sahibs on payment or free of cost from the Zamindars (landlords) of native villages. The plan to establish a town settlement was also made. Therefore, the construction work on the Sarovar(the tank) and the town started simultaneously in 1570. The work on both projects completed in 1577 A.D.
GURUDWARA SRI TARN TARAN SAHIB
Gurdwara Sri Tarn Taran Sahib is a gurdwara established by the fifth guru, Guru Arjan Dev, in the city of Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab, India. The site has the distinction of having the largest sarovar (water pond) of all the gurdwaras. It is famous for the monthly gathering of pilgrims on the day of Amavas (a no-moon night). It is near Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar.
GURDWARA SHRI BAOLI SAHIB GOINDWAL SAHIB
Goindwal, also known as Goindwal Sahib, is located in Taran Taran district in the Majha region of the state of Punjab in India about 23 km from Tarn Taran Sahib. In the 16th century it became an important center for the Sikh religion during the Guruship of the Guru Amar Das. Goindwal is on the banks of the river Beas and is one of the focal points of small scale industries of Tarn Taran district.
Guru Amar Das (the third Guru or the third Nanak) stayed in Goindwal for 33 years where he established a new centre for preaching Sikhism. A Baoli (stepwell), paved with 84 steps was constructed there. Some devout believe that by reciting Japji Sahib, the divine Word revealed to Guru Nanak Dev at each of the 84 steps after taking a bath in the Baoli provides Moksha, liberation from 84,00,000 cycles of life of this world and unity with God (mukhti). Goindval is where Guru Amar Das met Guru Ram Das, the next Guru. Guru Arjan Dev was also born there on 15 April 1563. It is called axis of Sikhism as it was the first center of Sikhism.
GURUDWARA BABA BAKALA
Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib is a prominent Sikh Gurdwara in Baba Bakala, Punjab, India and it is known for its association with the 9th Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Mata Ganga and Baba Makhan Shah Lubana.
GURUDWARA BABA DEEP SINGH
Gurudwara Baba Deep Singh, Amritsar The great Sikh scholar and martyr Baba Deep Singh was mortally wounded here when in 1762 the Afghan invader Ahmed Shah Abdali ordered the Harmandar Sahib blown up and the Sacred Tank filled in. Baba Deep Singh, the greatest Sikh scholar of his time, took up the sword on a mission to restore the sanctity of the Sikhs most revered Temple. He along with five thousand faithful Sikhs fought against the Muslim forces of Jahan Khan. Although heavily outnumbered the Sikhs fought bravely. Baba Deep Singh was fatally wounded in the neck but had vowed to die in the precincts of the Golden Temple. Although mortally wounded Baba Deep Singh was able to continue fighting until he was able to make his way to the Amritsar (sacred pool) where he finally expired.
GURUDWARA BHAI SAALO JI
Bhai Shalo Ji, was very famous and a great Sikh during the times of Guru Ram Das Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. He was born on 29th September 1554, In the village of Daula Kingra, In Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab, to Bhai Dyala Ji and Mata Sukhdei Ji, a Dhaliwal Jatt family of the Malva region of Panjab. His parents were originally followers of Pir Sakhi Sarwar (Sultanias), Later his parents turned to Gursikh, after having Darshan of Guru Ram Das Ji (1574-1581).
Later His parents migrated to then a village Majitha, Located In Amritsar District of Panjab, where they settled forever. But Bhai Shalo who was then a young youth, stayed at Amritsar, then known as Guru Ka Chak, with Guru Sahib. He started selfless service (sewa) and meditation (simran).
GURUDWARA BIR BABA BUDHA
Gurdwara Beed Baba Budda Sahib is situated on Chaabal - Amritsar road near village Jhabal Kalan in district Amritsar Punjab India. Baba Buddha ji spent much of his life here. Guru Arjan Dev also visited this place at some stage.
Also known as Gurudwara Bir Baba Buddha, this is situated in the revenue limits of the village of Thatta, 20 km south of Amritsar. The shrine honours and commemorates Baba Buddha (1506 - 1631), the venerable Sikh of the time of Guru Nanak who lived long enough to anoint five succeeding Gurus.
He spent many years looking after the "bir", literally a reserved forest used for cattle grazing, said to have been offered to Guru Arjan by Chaudhari Langah of Patti out of his private lands. According to Gurbilas Chhevin Patshahi, it was here on 21 Assu 1651 Bk/20 September 1594, that Mata Ganga the wife of Guru Arjan, received blessings for an illustrious son (the future Guru Har Gobind, Nanak VI) from Baba Buddha.
GURUDWARA CHHEHARTA SAHIB
GURUDWARA SHRI CHEHARTA SAHIB is situated in the Amritsar City near Village Guru Ki Wadali. Guru ki Wadali is the birthplace of the Sixth Guru, SHRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI, the son of SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI. To celebrate the birth of his son, SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI constructed a big well at this place. This well had six Persian wheels to draw out the water and thus came to be known as Chhe harta, the well with six wheels. This well helped in removing water scarcity in the region and enabled the greening of the fields. This well with Persian wheels is still preserved here.
GURUDWARA GURU KA MAHAL
GURUDWARA SHRI GURU MAHAL is situated in the Amritsar City. Its near to the GURUDWARA SHRI HARIMANDIR SAHIB. SHRI GURU RAMDAS JI and his family was staying here. SHRI GURU RAMDAS JI founded the city of RAMDASPUR (Modern day AMRITSAR) and began excavation of 'POOL OF NECTAR'. SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI got married here and was also blessed as GURU here. SHRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI was also married here. This place is also birth place of BABA ATAL RAI JI and SHRI GURU TEG BAHADUR JI.
GURUDWARA KAULSAR SAHIB
Gurdwara Mata Kaulan Sahib or Gurdwara Kaulsar Sahib is a sacred Sikh shrine on the west-side of Gurdwara Baba Atal in Amritsar, Punjab near the main Darbar Sahib at Harmandar Sahib.
Next to the Gurdwara Mata Kaulan lies a Sarovar (pool) known as Kaulsar Sahib or Kaulsar Sarvor, named after a holy lady who was raised as a Muslim called Bibi Kaulan, the adopted (possibly Hindu) daughter of the Qazi of Lahore. She was a highly spiritual woman who was above religious divides and took refuge with the sixth master Guru Hargobind Ji at Amritsar (1606-1645). The samadhi of Mata Kaulan lies at the western end of the Kaulsar Gurdwara.
The significance of Gurdwara Mata Kaulan and Kaulsar Sarovar could be adjudged from the fact that Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh guru, had directed the devotees to take a dip in the Sarovar Kaulsar before the Golden Temple Sarovar. (a Sakhi to this effect is written right outside the entrance of Gurdwara Bibi Kaulan, adjacent to Darbar Sahib).
GURDWARA RAMSAR SAHIB
Gurdwara Ramsar stands alongside the Ramsar Sarovar, the smallest of Amritsar's five holy Sarovar. Located near Chativind Gate, on the south-eastern side of the walled city of Amritsar, the present Gurdwara Ramsar is a small marble-lined hall topped by a gilded, fluted lotus dome.
It was built in 1855, at the site of the original shrine, where long before the present Gurdwara was constructed. Guru Arjun Dev, the fifth Sikh Guru who was looking for a quiet spot away from the growing city of Amritsar, choose this site as the spot where the Guru Granth Sahib would take form.
GURUDWARA SANTOKHSAR SAHIB
Gurdwara Santokhsar Sahib is a historical Sikh shrine, situated at a distance of 700 Meters from Harimandir Sahib. This is one of the five historical servers constructed by Guru Arjun Dev.
SHRI AKAL TAKHAT SAHIB
The Akal Takht, the meaning throne of the timeless one, is one of five takes (seats of power) of the Sikhs. It is located in the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) complex in Amritsar, Punjab. The Akal Takht was built by Guru Hargobind as a place of justice and consideration of temporal issues the highest seat of earthly authority of the Khalsa (the collective body of the Sikhs) and the place of the Jathedar, the highest spokesman of the Sikhs.
